Investment |
From School Boards to Municipalities to Hospitals everyone is
looking for ways to lower operating costs. As
budgets shrink, increased financial pressures diminish institutional capacity to deliver
core services. Boards and CFOs struggle
to maintain current services much less enhance programs to serve ever increasing client
needs.

In todays climate cost cutting is king. American Green Technology can help you do
just that: cut costs. We can show you how to bring lost utility dollars
back into play. The term fixed
costs used to mean utility expenses and other fixed costs that were
simply the cost of doing business, unavoidable expense. Consider what your organization spends for
utilities each month, each year. Lets
bring those dollars back into play. Investment
in green technology will reduce those costs next month and every month thereafter.
For example, parking lots are commonly lit with
400w metal halide lamps. If run 24 hours per
day, each lamp costs about 5,800 dollars to
operate over ten years. Lit for typical
overnight applications, each costs about 3,000 dollars over ten years. Multiply that cost for 100 lamps! For typical applications, 100 lamps cost about
300,000 dollars to burn each night for ten years.
Magnetic Induction lamps will reduce that cost by
about 65% on energy usage alone. Couple that
with 100,000 hour lamp life and the savings multiply.
A 200w induction lamp can replace a 400w MH and
save about 1,900 dollars per lamp over ten years. In
a 100 pole installation, the savings are about 190,000 dollars.
These savings can be
demonstrated with a simply amp draw test, a 30 day metered installation, and by real world
studies that have taken place over past years. As
utility costs continue to rise, and the cost of maintaining equipment goes up, dollars
invested in Magnetic Induction lighting will generate ever greater dividends.
While investment accounts pay
dividends of one or two percent, induction lighting pays dividends of 65% or more. Green investment can be potent. Let an AGT representative help your organization
generate green energy dividends and drive real dollars to your bottom line.

When
comparing various lighting technologies used in industrial, manufacturing and retail
applications, it becomes clear that induction based lighting fixtures offer the best
environmental characteristics. This study surveys the advantages of Magnetic Induction
lighting versus traditional lighting technologies. LED, an emerging lighting system, has
not yet achieved the capacity or durability of Magnetic Induction lighting. While
efficient in low light levels, high output LED arrays lack efficiency and acceptably low
maintenance regimens.
The Advantages of Magnetic Induction
Lamps: Long lifespan
due to the lack of electrodes - between 65,000 and 100,000 hours depending on the lamp
model;
Very high energy conversion efficiency
of between 62 and 90 Lumens/watt [higher wattage lamps are more energy efficient];
High power factor due to the low loss
in high frequency electronic ballasts which are between 95% and 98% efficient;
Minimal Lumen depreciation (declining
light output with age) compared to other lamp types as filament evaporation and depletion
are absent;
"Instant-on" and hot
re-strike, unlike most conventional lamps used in commercial/industrial lighting
applications (Sodium vapor and Metal Halide);
Environmentally friendly as
induction lamps use far less energy, and almost no mercury per hour of operation when
compared to conventional lighting. The mercury is in a solid amalgam and can easily be
easily recovered if the lamp is broken, or for recycling at end-of-life.
These
benefits offer a considerable cost savings of between 35% and 65% in energy and
maintenance costs for induction lamps compared to other types of lamps that they replace.
In some applications, advanced energy savings technologies incorporated into the fixtures
can provide energy savings as high as 75%.

City Manager
I recently reported on the
overall approach staff has undertaken to reduce the cost
of street lighting without compromising public safety.
Last week electric crews began the installation of new,
high-efficiency light fixtures in four areas of the
city: four decorative lights on Front Street and Main
Street (two at the southwest corner of Main and S.
Front, one at 208 S. Front, one on Main Street directly
in front of Borgess-Lee Memorial
Hospital) and three standard street lights on N. Mill, starting at
E. Division Street.

Note
- We expect a 60-70% savings plus maintenance.

American Green Technology is expert at
retrofitting induction technology into your existing fixtures. We
have solutions for roadway cobra head fixtures that put more light
to the ground than existing technologies at a price far less than
replacement fixtures. Retrofits can often be accomplished in the
field using current equipment and staff.
Ornamental street lamps and antique “acorn”
lamps are also a quick retrofit using our custom brackets. Simply
remove the existing ballast, capacitor, and socket. Connect the
induction processor to the main feed. Fasten the AGT bracket using
existing mounting screws and the retrofit is complete.
GL
lamps are perfect for ornamental street lamps. The bulb radiates
with a consistent light that refracts through the luminaire in a
soft glow. Because the light does not emanate from a single source
point of light but from the entire globe, the luminaire looks fuller
and more decorative. In residential areas there is less glare and
fewer complaints.
Old style NEMA lights used for security lamps
off of pole arms or swung over intersections are a simple retro-fit
too. Simply empty the basket of the ballast and connect the
induction processor to the main feed wires. Screw the AGT bracket
into the existing mounting holes and plug the lamp to the
processor. This retrofit can be accomplished in the field in 15
minutes or less.
The beauty of all of these retrofits is the ten
years of no maintenance that follow. The lamps will burn for over
20 years, 100,000 hours. With the 20 year lamp life there will be
no bulb changes for 20 years, but, you may want to check the fixture
once along the way!
Let an AGT representative show your team how
existing fixtures can be retrofitted with induction lighting then
find a place to “Park the Bucket Truck” and begin saving your
community wasted utility dollars!
